There is increasing desire among hotel travelers to choose hotels that offer sustainability programs. Marriott hotel guests are no different, but unfortunately no leading environmental studies recommend skipping housekeeping as an impactful choice for hoteliers. Sadly, skipping housekeeping is the core of Marriott’s “Your Choice” and “Make a Green Choice” programs. Environmental studies do recommend towel and linen reuse which hotels such as Marriott can implement without harming housekeepers.
Leading voices on the environment are joining housekeepers in their call for sustainability programs that do no harm to workers and do much more than line hotel owners’ pockets.
Recently the Sierra Club, a prominent voice on climate change with more than 3.5 million members, signed our pledge to refuse Marriott’s Green Choice program. They are joining our growing chorus of voices who are calling on Marriott to lead the industry in creating a sustainability program that does not hurt working women.
Will you join them and sign the pledge?
